Ear Care

Posted: 12/5/2014

Although our dog’s ears need to be regularly monitored for their entire life, a little basic maintenance is generally all that’s required to keep them clean and healthy. In fact, giving them regular home ear exams will help keep you alert to any redness, deformities or inflammation that may indicate a health problem.

At Yellowdog we are another set of eyes looking out for your dogs health and between you, your vet and Yellowdog your pets health will be well looked after.

We don't only care for your pets skin and coat, but we also care for their eyes, ears and glands, as well as giving their body a good looking over for any lumps, bumps or changes in skin pigmentation.

Because of the twisty, curvy design of a dog’s inner ears, it’s easy for parasites, bacteria and yeast to hide and thrive in them. This also means that any debris in the canal must work its way up to escape. Infections can result from trapped debris. Dogs with allergies are particularly vulnerable, as are those with floppy ears, like Cocker spaniels, basset hounds and poodles.

What we watch out for with your pets ears:

  • Ear discharge
  • Bad smells
  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Crusty skin
  • Hair loss

When we recognise any of these symptoms and catch them quickly we will then recommend you seek veterinary help and hopefully prevent ear-related disorders that are commonly seen in dogs:

At Yellowdog we are dedicated to providing dog grooming with a difference, we aim to provide you and your pet with a pleasant experience in a professional and caring environment.
