We Love Hownd!

We are proud to celebrate our chosen salon brand HOWND, a natural pet care brand for happy dogs.

Dogs naturally lose old or damaged hair by shedding. The amount usually depends upon their health, breed type and the season. Here are some of our top tips on caring for your dogs that shed.

Skin Problems

Your dog’s skin is an indication of their overall health. When a skin problem occurs, your dog may respond with excessive scratching, chewing and/or licking. A wide range of causes, including external parasites, infections, allergies, metabolic problems and stress, or a combination of these may be affecting your dog’s skin.

What Are Fleas?

With nearly 2,000 species and subspecies, fleas thrive in warm, humid environments, and feed on the blood of their hosts. Dogs play host to the cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis), whose dark brown or black body is usually one to three millimeters in length.

Why Does My Dog Have Bad Breath?

What Is Bad Breath?

We all know bad breath, also known as halitosis. Bad breath is the result of a build-up of odor producing bacteria in your dog’s mouth, lungs or gut. Persistent bad breath can indicate that your dog needs better dental care or that something is wrong in his insides. It could be one of many things liver, kidneys or the stomach. In all cases, halitosis is a red flag that should be investigated.

Armstrong's Twisted Fish

Armstrong's Twisted Fish is a new healthy treat for your dog.  Their fish treats contain 100% fish skin, nothing else.  There are no additives or preservatives!

Yellowdog Photo Competition

We are holding our first competition and would love everyone to join in!

All you have to do to win is post a photo of your little critters on the Yellowdog Facebook www.facebook.com/YDGrooming page It can be of them doing absolutely anything, funny, cute, smiling, your choice.

Canine Oral Hygiene

Did you know that regularly brushing your dog's teeth and providing them with a healthy diet and plenty of chew toys can go a long way toward keeping their mouth healthy? Many dogs show signs of gum disease by the time they're four years old because they aren't provided with proper mouth care—and bad breath is often the first sign of a problem.

Dogs Love Music

Just like humans, dogs respond emotionally to music as well. According to the University of Bristol, music can have a calming effect on your pets emotional state. Although dogs don't respond to just any old music! They have an ear for classical and orchestra music.

Ear Care

Although our dog’s ears need to be regularly monitored for their entire life, a little basic maintenance is generally all that’s required to keep them clean and healthy. In fact, giving them regular home ear exams will help keep you alert to any redness, deformities or inflammation that may indicate a health problem.

Eye Care

Our pets, just like humans need regular checkups on their eyes. In fact, giving them regular home eye exams will help keep you alert to any tearing, cloudiness or inflammation that may indicate a health problem.

Why Yellowdog does not shave double coats.

Double coated dogs refer to the animals that, like Huskies, have two layers of fur. The first, or undercoat, are the fine, fluffy hairs that are short and crimp (closest to the skin). It's the fur that sheds; light and soft. This layer is excellent at trapping air and insulating the dog. Essentially it keeps them warm in the winter, and cool in the summer.
